THE STORY
“This silkscreen print, 72 × 52 cm, is made by Olinda Silvano, a Shipibo-Konibo artist and kené master from the Peruvian Amazon. The title — 'The Force of the Forest' — reflects the Amazon's presence at the center of Shipibo-Konibo knowledge. Silvano's practice is built on kené, an ancestral geometric visual system she learned from her grandmother and has dedicated her life to preserving.”
About the artist
Olinda Silvano is an artist, kené master, and community leader of the Shipibo-Konibo people from the Peruvian Amazon. She learned kené — an ancestral system of geometric patterns passed between women in her family — from her grandmother, and has worked for years to preserve and transmit this living tradition in Lima and internationally.
